    Pickle Bean Garden: Monday, May 18 2008 — Before the rain came. Over the weekend, the three main bins were turned sideways to get the plants more sun. In the previous arrangement, there was a sort of “front” and “back,” and the back plant was fighting to get the sun of the front plant. Now everyone is side by side and happier than ever. The netting around the Okra and Beans was removed because it was hurting their growth. The Peas have been removed from that bin, as they all died.

    Time to Fertilize! Been about 3 weeks since everything was first planted. This will be applied in waves, where a little is given to each bin in order. After a brief stop for drainage, additional passes with the sprayer help fully saturate the soil. It’s been very hot during the day, in the low 90s in the shade. This heavy watering and fertilizer should serve them well until the next rain and cooler temperatures.
