  1. Pickle Bean Garden: Monday, May 18 2008 — Before the rain came.

Over the weekend, the three main bins were turned sideways to get the plants more sun. In the previous arrangement, there was a sort of “front” and “back,” and the back plant was fighting to get the sun of the front plant. Now everyone is side by side and happier than ever.

The netting around the Okra and Beans was removed because it was hurting their growth. The Peas have been removed from that bin, as they all died.

  3. Looking down on the dying Peas. Not sure if they are going to make it much longer.

  4. The Peas are now priority #1. They seem to be dying, maybe burning in the sun.

  5. Sunday Night Watering

The plants got a check-up and watering at about 11pm Sunday night. The Peppers are looking better, it looks like they are recovering from the Aphid infestation.

Cantaloupe and Watermelon are growing well beyond their bin. There is almost no hope of keeping all the arms inside, so maybe they will be growing fruit on the ground.

Tom the Tomato now has friends! There were at least 3 other small tomatoes near him this morning.

Peas are now priority #1 because they seem to be having the roughest time with the sun… or something else that is slowly killing them. Lots of water and observation for now.

  8. The middle-most Pea plant’s light was almost completely blocked by the Okra and Beans, and was the first to die.

  9. One Pea pod has some damage. Not sure what it is from, but bug spray is coming.

  10. The Peas with day-old dowel supports. Not much action here. The plant closest to the middle (and therefore the one with nearly no sun) is just about completely dead, with a pea pod at the end of it.

  11. Green Beans looking good too. They are definitely competing with the Okra for sun, and they are both now towering over the Peas.
